I have been programming in C# and C++ (Assembly too, but only for school stuff) and I am interested in learning DirectX. I was wondering if there are any good resources for DirectX for beginners?

I am currently using Visual Studio to program and have only been programming for less than a year. I thought this was worth mentioning too.

Any tips would be helpful also.
Thanks!

Hey buddy, sure there are a ton of good resources out there...but the best thing you can do is go and grab a good beginners book on DirectX in C++ and work your way through it.

There are a ton of good examples and websites out there...here are a few links from my bookmarks that you might want to check out...

http://www.riaz.de/tutorials/d3d.html

http://www.zanir.szm.sk/dx00-09.html

http://triplebuffer.devmaster.net/file.php?id=7&page=0

http://www.drunkenhyena.com/cgi-bin/dx9.pl

and of course http://www.gamedev.net GameDev.net has one of the best communities around for programming games.

Again, I would recommend getting a good book or two (at least to have as a reference if the internet goes down and you're in the middle of coding) and working your way through them, they come with some good source code too...a good book shouldn't cost more than $60.

Just go to the book store and look through them until you find one that looks like it suits you well. You can always check out book reviews online as well.

Most samples will use Visual studio, and I'd recommend programming games in C++ instaed of C#.

Best of luck to you! Let me know if you have any specific questions about D3D!

- Dan

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have heard from numerous people (mostly on the web) that it is better to use C++. I'll definately take your advice on that. I will also check out all of the links you listed.

Anyway, I am very impressed with everything I've seen from your work on this game. Keep up the good work.

What 3d modeling tools do you use? Do you use resources (textures, models, etc.) or do you create everything from scratch?

Thanks!
