Ok.
I started to learn C++ to make games. Then i found out that you need something else, like SDL, OpenGL, or DirectX or something like that to get the 3D stuff.

If someone were as kind as to point me in the direction of what i need to download and tutorials on the language/languages i need to learn, i would be grateful.

I already know php, css, as, and html, and would like to furter my scripting knowledges to Games.

Thanks

Sure...I'll try my best to point you in a good direction....

You'll need a good IDE (Integrated development environment) and compiler to convert your C++ code into a .exe I recommend Visual Studio

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/download/default.aspx

You'll also need to install a SDK (Software development kit) with the necessary libraries to compile a .exe using DirectX, or OpenGL.

You can download the latest DirectX SDK here...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1FD20DF1-DEC6-47D0-8BEF-10E266DFDAB8&displaylang=en

I don't know how comfortable you are with this type of stuff...if you're just starting out wtih C++/DirectX I'd recommend getting a book on both topics. The books will come with CDs that will include all software necessary to compile the code/examples in the book. So look for a book with examples that have the functionality you want.

Your first goal should be installing the IDE, and SDK and compiling one of the examples in the DirectX SDK. There are a number of tutorials in the DXSDK that walk you through the setup of Direct3D, DirectInput, and DirectSound.

It will probably be too much work for you to learn C++ and DirectX at once. You'll need to work with C++ for a few months to understand the language. Again, I'd recommend a good book on the topic...maybe pick up one of the "Teach yourself C++ in 21 days" books and work your way through it.

Hope I could be of some help, let me know if you have any more questions!

He replied, "I just kind of optimized for game play."

Thanks for the uber fast reply.

I'm dling them now, but i have a pc in another room i do all my coding with, and it doesn't have net access.

I have to transfer it over via my ipod, i'll post back or edit if my installation goes good, and stuff.

Edit: I'm going out, so i may only reply in about 3 hours or so.

Hi
I have 2 questions:
1. do you use D3DXMesh for actors & meshes, or did you written your own class using Vertex & Index buffers? how about skinning? are you using shaders for that?
2. what method do you use for excluding invisible planes?
