OK, so the game being close to beta means that I'm fired up about "gang war" type games. It also means I get to post randomly to improve my post count! YAY for noobs!

Actually my interest in games waxes and wanes (because most games are simply all about graphics and not innovative gameplay) and I don't give a sh!t about post counts as I'm too fickle to keep up with it. I just wanted to explain why I'll prolly burst with a dozen or so posts and then... we'll see.

Anyway, enough about my religious and political beliefs... I saw a post about games that inspired you, I thought I'd introduce one about reading looong boring posts like this one, and also about the "fan base's" favorite games.

My favorites include gangsters (best and most annoying game ever, how the fk did that happen) gangsters 2 (the entire reason you're spot on in NOT making your game about storyline, but instead about sandbox) as well as Mafia (a thousand modders have been trying to convert mafia into something like THIS with NO luck, and there has been no support since the game was released other than "hey there'll be a mafia 2!!!!").

Majesty is the only non-mafia game I'll mention here as the gameplay eliminates micromanagement, but other than that most strategy games (especially Age of Empires, of which i've played I-III and hated every minute of each) make you work like a bitch to pretend to be "king" or "don" or what have you. I mean, the godfather? The game was supposed to be about taking territory, instead it was about 3rd person shooting 10000 gangsters. Gangland was like taking a bullet to the head and living through it, and its predecessor "escape from paradise city" is supposed to be different but from what I can tell from the demo it is basically like taking a bullet to the head and living through it.

BTW if you ever want a book published you have my permission to publish the war and peace my drunk ass just wrote ^^^^

Very nice, I enjoyed reading your drunken post...please keep all drunken posts in the drunk post thread in the RN forum. j/k Smile

I agree with all of your points, and I honestly find it hard to believe [ but good for me] why there aren't any gangster games like mine out there [gameplay wise, all multiplayer, etc.].

I agree with your assessment of all those gangster games, and their un-interesting linear plots, un-realistic damage, or boring linear story lines [wait I already used that one], but yea...you're spot on, and I agree with ya...hey maybe that's why I'm making the game? lol.

Hope you keep postin'.

They are like 5 steps away from making gangland and its successor worth playing. All they have to do is make it about a GANG instead of one guy trying to kill people by using outdated mmorpg attack methods (click, sit back). They could use strategy elements since it is supposed to be a strategy game... they don't for the most part. They could make it about protecting territory.... nope.

It was fun for a minute, but there is no depth.

it was fun. they just wanted to do it that way i know what your thinking and that would be more fun but shit they did it their way and it worked out good anyway. i think the game is fuckin great and doesnt easily get boring.

i doubt you know much about the game anyway to know what you can do in it.

Which one? The first one? I've played it about 3/4 of the way through. I agree with you, that they did it their way and it worked out ok. It gets boring for me too easily is all. I like the fact that your bodyguards can guard you autonomously, but you put every one of them in a window to guard a building and the enemy walks right through a hail of bullets, and then you have 4 guys walking in each room taking guards out one at a time. That is not what reinforcing a building should be about. If you lock a building down, you should have the ability to LOCK THE DAMN DOOR. Maybe put a desk in front of it, I don't know.

As for the second one, you're right, I've only played the demo. However, they made it all about micromanaging your hero and rpg'ing him and some crapzors bodyguards. Then you've gotta treat the game like a busy monday at the office, taking out an inane amount of people with just your little crew, shooting each badguy like 20 times so that you stand around for thirty seconds shooting someone point blank with an ak47, "oh noes, I didn't get that leg shot off, how will I ever kill him emptying a clip in his chest?!". That's not mob power!

well actually you can lock your doors lol. safehouses can lock if your boss is sitting at the desk and press the command. also all businesses that you buy out can lock their doors.

and yeah but they want to do it their own way i guess.. and as you see gangland and escape from paradise city arent very realistic lol. your characters are under cover cops so you wont be doing really criminal things. but eh im happy that there are games still coming out like gangland.
