Yo Danny, thanks for the tips. I just started to re-write the GUI system today (been busy with the new OpenGL release, shaders, and AI/Networking)

About a day's work got me this awesome gui:

Impressive. Are you reading the button source from a common texture so you can make skins trivially?

Also are you using the text's width to center it in the button?

Also, a little tip...screenshot the windows controls and base yours off them :-d

That's what I did with my GUI (except the radio player, I made that one myself) -

My GUI system is totally skinnable, I have about 7 skins included with the game. Also I circumvent the DirectInput code and use the Win32 message pump to handle keyboard input on the textboxes.

I might base them off of windows forms later on.

Also, I have updated it since yesterday.

Button now uses the text width for centering, added colors and skins for all items, added listbox, scrollable window, label.

It all works much better now.

And I use colors for most of it, but I use images where I can (buttons, clsoe buttons, check boxes)

As for input, I didn't want to make it Windows dependent, so I used a custom event handler that is in the render SDK I use (Leadwerks Engine 2.0).

I basically do a loop, checking each key, and if it is pressed, it returns its character, if capslock is on or shift is down it returns uppercase.

cool cool.

Also, one little thing I did, for check boxes (for instance) that are in the 'being clicked state' I created a 3rd state for it, and display a blurred check box. It looks sweet.
